The historic heart of Castelsardo has developed around the Doria Castle (1102). This castle now houses the Museum of Mediterranean Handicrafts, one of the most visited sites in Sardinia.
In 1586, the Cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate was built, captivating visitors with its spectacular bell tower topped by a colorful majolica dome.
Under the Savoyard dynasty, the village adopted its current name, Castelsardo. Today, it is part of the prestigious Club of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and retains the authentic charm of a fortified lordship.
